LessThan Method (TdPeriodDate)

Teradata.Client.Provider Namespace > TdPeriodDate Structure : LessThan Method
An instance of TdPeriodDate.
An instance of TdPeriodDate.
Compares two TdPeriodDate structures to determine whether the left operand is less than the right operand.
Syntax
'Declaration

Public Shared Function LessThan( _
   ByVal left As TdPeriodDate, _
   ByVal right As TdPeriodDate _
) As Boolean
'Usage

Dim left As TdPeriodDate
Dim right As TdPeriodDate
Dim value As Boolean

value = TdPeriodDate.LessThan(left, right)
public static bool LessThan(
   TdPeriodDate left,
   TdPeriodDate right
)
public:
static bool LessThan(
   TdPeriodDate left,
   TdPeriodDate right
)

Parameters

left
An instance of TdPeriodDate.
right
An instance of TdPeriodDate.

Return Value

A boolean is returned that indicates the result of the comparison.
Remarks

In order to perform this comparison the beginning and ending bounds of the left and right operands are compared against each other. The left is less than the right if the following is true:

    ((left.Begin < right.Begin) OR (left.Begin == right.Begin AND left.End <= right.End))

The value returned is true if the left is less than the right, false otherwise.

Return Value Description
true left and right are not TdPeriodDate.Null and left is less than right.
false

left and / or right is Null

-or-

left is greater than or equal to right.

Comparison operators always returns false if one of the operands is Null. Therefore, you must not assume that the reverse condition is true. For example you cannot assume that the left operand is greater than or equal the right operand if the LessThan operator returns false.
